Internship in Environmental Education: San Mateo Outdoor Education

San Mateo Outdoor Education is a five day resident outdoor education program for fifth and sixth grade students from the San Mateo County. During the first weeks, SMOE interns receive intensive training to prepare them for teaching environmental education classes on a variety of subjects in a variety of settings. In addition to teaching in the daytime, interns participate in evening activities that include campfires, night hikes, and folk dancing. Staff training is ongoing throughout the year, and duties will include teaching the major concepts of the program to 5th and 6th gade students, counseling students, assisting in supervising and evaluating high school cabin leaders, serving as a link between teachers, cabin leaders, and students, enforcing safety and discipline standards.

When: September 2011 – May 2012

Compensation: Room and board and stipend of $275/week.
