Amy Lehrburger: Arts and Language School Internship in Yucatan, Mexico
July 5, 2011
Amy Lehrburger
During the spring of my junior year, I went to Mérida, Mexico to work at a fledgling arts and language school called Habla. I arrived a day before the inauguration of the building, and so was able to play a very active role in the administrative, curricular, and logistical founding of the school. Started by two former Brown professors, Kurt Wootton and Maria del Mar Patron, Habla is an innovative educational environment where I was encouraged as an intern to take initiative and follow my own personal interests. I spent some time traveling around the Yucatan peninsula, and fell in love with southeastern Mexico’s impressive geography.
